Ayutthaya war früher Hauptstadt des siamesischen Königreichs Ayutthaya und im 18. Jahrhundert die Metropole Südostasiens. Das Königreich Ayutthaya war ein thailändisches Königreich, das von 1351 bis 1767 existierte. König Ramathibodi I. gründete am 4. März 1351 Ayutthaya als Hauptstadt seines neuen Königreiches. In den folgenden vier Jahrhunderten vergrößerte es sich zur Nation von Siam, dessen Grenzen fast denen des heutigen Thailand entsprachen.
