Barbados Chattel Houses, winzige Provisorien, das sind die traditionellen Behausungen der Bajans auf dem Land. Der Name Chattel verwies auf die Tatsache, dass sie bewegliche Sachen (Häuser) waren. Typisch für sie sind die leuchteden Farben, der Stil wird oft bei Neubauten übernommen. Trotz hoher Bevölkerungsdichte hat Barbados das höchste Pro Kopf Einkommen der Karibik. Die meisten Häuser verfügen über fließendes Wasser und Elektrizität.
